  Q.

What wooden surfaces is M2 frequently used on?

  Q.

What wooden surfaces is M7 frequently used on?

Answer

  A.

M7 is primarily used on external decks to ensure optimal protection from the external environment such as rain, humidity and UV rays.

  Q.

Can M7 be used on low density wooden surfaces?

Answer

  A.

Yes. M7 can be used on low density wooden surfaces. We recommend not to use M2 on high density wood.

  Q.

Why must I dilute the first coat of M7 with mineral turps?

Answer

  A.

M7 is a thick solvent-borne wood sealer, as a result, to ensure the wood is fully penetrated and sealed inside, we highly recommend diluting the first coat of M7 with mineral turps in a ratio of 50:50. The second coat may be applied sparingly without diluting the M7 with mineral turps.

  Q.

Why is Silkwood taking long to dry on my wooden surface?

Answer

  A.

Due to our critical raw components in our range, M2 can take longer to dry than M7. We strongly suggest applying our ranges outside in a dry environment. If this cannot be done, we recommend applying our ranges in a well-ventilated area. Weather as a factor should be considered such as rain and humidity. Moisture in the air can affect the drying times between coats. We also suggest that your wooden surface is well-sanded before applying the first coat as well as ensuring your wooden surface is dry and not damp.

  Q.

Do I have to wait for the wooden surface to be completely dry after the first coat before applying the second and/or third coat?

Answer

  A.

For the optimal results, please ensure your wooden surface is completely dry before applying the second and/or third coat. Not ensuring your wooden surface is dry before recoating can result in a much longer drying time as well a substandard finish in quality and colour utility.

  Q.

How long does Silkwood take to dry?

Answer

  A.

Our ranges drying times vary due to our components used. M2 can take between 24-72 hours to be completely dry. M7 can take between 24-48 hours to be completely dry. Please consider external factors into account as humidity and rain can cause longer drying times.

  Q.

The colour is different?

Answer

  A.

Ensure before applying Silkwood on your wooden surface that the tin is thoroughly shaken or stirred. Our colours are well researched to ensure your wooden surface is aesthetically pleasing as well as protected. If you are maintaining or recoating the wooden surface from an existing tin, please ensure it is well shaken or stirred before use.

  Q.

Can Silkwood be applied over other Varnishes/Sealer products?

Answer

  A.

We suggest preferably that Silkwood should be applied to wooden surfaces that have not been previously applied with other Varnishes/ Sealer products. If absolutely necessary, Silkwood can be applied to wooden surfaces that have been previously applied with Varnishes/Sealer products that are solvent-borne in nature provided that all sides of the wooden surface including the end-grain is thoroughly sanded, exposing the naked wood. Please ensure to also contact the other manufacturers of the Sealer/Varnish you previously used.

  Q.

Can other Sealers/Varnishes be applied over Silkwood?

Answer

  A.

We recommend that you should contact the manufacturer of the sealer/varnish you would like to use.

  Q.

Why is M7 peeling off/flaky on my wooden surface?

Answer

  A.

The M7 may have been applied on the wooden surface too thickly. Please ensure to dilute the first coat with mineral turps and ensure the wooden surface is thoroughly dried before applying the second and/or third coat. Please ensure to coat the wooden surface sparingly in a well-ventilated environment and ensure the wooden surface is not exposed to moisture or is damp.

  Q.

How long do I have to wait before I re-apply Silkwood for maintenance purposes?

Answer

  A.

Depending on where you are situated and what wooden surface you have used as well as the purpose for it, Silkwood can and should be re-applied between six-twelve months.

  Q.

How Should I maintain my wooden surface?

Answer

  A.

When applying Silkwood for maintenance use, it is paramount to ensure the wooden surface is lightly sanded and Silkwood is then re-applied. If the wooden surface has been severely been worn, we suggest that it is thoroughly sanded down, and Silkwood is then re-applied with two-three coats.
